I love reading; of this, there is no doubt!

So, when I was given a new book as a gift earlier this year, I could not wait to get home and dive into the world created by the writer. The book is “Mambo Lips, A Faux Memoir” by multi-talented author Joie Lamar.

I devoured it the first time, racing through the pages in one night. Something this good deserves to be savored, and I’ve since read it another three times over.

This is a story of growing up in New York in the 70s, the coming of age, the discovery of one’s sexuality, exploring the world around you, and so much more.

I was constantly fascinated, so many situations related where I found myself saying, “I remember when that happened!” or some things which moved me to tears, and some which had me laughing to the point that my cat was looking at me like I had lost it permanently.

I asked about the “faux memoir.” subtitle. The author outlines it perfectly in the introduction to her book, that this is a compilation of her defining moments to the best of her recollection. In other words, if it isn’t letter-perfect, call it a faux memoir.

Mambo Lips is the first of a set of books, the next in line, Salsa Hips is available for pre-order now.

If you want an entertaining and informative read, where you feel like you are standing in the same room as the author shares her life’s stories with you, get yourself to Amazon and pick up a copy. Trust me, you’ll be glad you did.

After enjoying this book so thoroughly, I shall be waiting anxiously to get my hands on a copy of Salsa Hips to read more of the story.

This is the perfect read for an afternoon, and I feel we should support the writers from our global rainbow family.
